25.07 - Day 36 - Paraty to Rio de Janeiro, BRA
Paraty to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Sunday 25th July 2010
A last stroll around the quaint old town before collecting our bags from the
friendly staff at Che Legarto and boarding the bus to it and our end destination:
Rio de Janeiro .
Driving North-East along the coast provides views of the spectacular beaches
and seaside villages that make this stretch of coastline so popular.
In Paraty
we left behind many kite flyers – this not just the past time of young
children. Along the bus journey too we pass lots of people young and old vying
for a gusty spot – aside the road, on the road, atop corrugated rooves – a
simple innocent sport.
At
the frantic bus terminal we taxi to our hostel of one night in Botafogo. Too
many people in one hostel – all rooms containing triple bunk beds; the top one
some eight foot off the ground.
After a walk around the block we settle for a
still sizzling meat feast at bar-cum-restaurant Odorico where on the big screen
local derby between Botafogo and Fluminense is being played out. 1-1 and three
red cards and that despite some very lenient refereeing.
A
bakery café for hot chocolate to finish, which my drink, translated is
described as melted chocolate and is in fact just that. Too thick to drink
despite being served in a mug – too sickly even for me to finish.
