Wed 30th Jun '21 - Day 19
Coral Bay
The promise of
another warm-to-hot day but windy this morning so an attempted walk up the
other headland from yesterday only gets us to the fixed binoculars looking out
over the bay, but not much walking before retreating back.
Seb and I head to the shops for food whilst Kate and
Sienna hang out the washing. They then come to meet us at the bouncy pillow
after which we pop over to the beach, mistakenly not in our swim gear as:
a) its much warmer and less windy on the beach almost
enticing a swim and
b) Seb jumps in to
the sea anyway with his clothes on.
Post lunch back at the van, both the kids are showing
signs of tiredness but are loathe to admit; Sienna does take herself upstairs,
or at least to the top bunk for quiet time for an hour whilst Seb falls asleep
on a towel when we go back to the beach in the afternoon. After more
engineering feats in the sand – King Canute has nothing on us – Sienna and I go
for a drift snorkel from around the headland; this is Sienna’s longest ever
snorkel and furthest distance travelled (on a noodle). Kate takes a solo turn
whilst Sienna and Seb talk with another man and young baby and craft turtles,
octopuses and starfishes in the sand. I watch from my chair, beer in hand…
We decide to forgo
out traditional Happy Hour visit and after burgers on the communal BBQ, we take
a football and a drink to the beach to catch the sunset just before 6pm. Uno of
course, then bed.
