24.02 Day 40 Nha Trang

Saturday 24th Feb - Nha Trang (Day 40)

Saturday day follows a similar pattern to the day before - early morning the temperature is mid 20’s rising to early 30’s in the afternoon. With a distinct blurring of weekend vs weekdays, we persuade the kids to plough on with schoolwork in the room, interspersed with trips to the rooftop pool.

On my breakfast hunt I’d spied a Pho restaurant, which at 15 minutes walk in the heat is on the cusp of the kids walking - mainly because we walk past so many other lunch venues on the way. To prempt any complaints they buy mango smoothies from two fruit shops next door at the start of the walk.

Given the choice, the kids would still rather have burgers / fried chicken / pizza. Seb will happily also go for fried rice which we steer him to here, whilst Sienna nibbles on some noodles extracted from Kate’s and my pho. Anything resembling flavour still has to come off. Three out of four being happy isn’t bad.

After Seb and Kate nap in the hotel room we all walk to the beach in our swimmers, having waited till the sun fell behind us and cast a shadow on the sand and sea. An afternoon breeze has riled up the sea with waves rising and crashing on the shore. This never ending wave machine doesn’t allow for graceful swimming, but for Sienna and Seb it’s a living playground. We spend a healthy hour ducking and diving the waves, Seb especially equally as happy diving through a wave as he is getting smashed by the next one and rolled over onto the beach. It’s easy to spend time in though; it feels as warm as the air temperature and we’re certainly not alone on the beach.

The walk back is past a Mixue ice-cream outlet that we’d visited in Bangkok, by the time we’re back in the room at 7pm, I run out to find some fried rice 3 ways, to soak up all the beach excitement.
