01&02.06 - Day 138&139 - Annapolis

Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd June - Annapolis, Maryland (Day 138 & 139)

Dave assures us that it’s not uncommon for him to fire up the BBQ on a Saturday morning but it still feels like a treat to have bacon and sausages, along with freshly ground coffee.

After play time with Charlotte especially we grab our swim stuff and head to the pool at nearby Sage Harbour. There’s plenty of activity with the club’s tennis and pickleball courts in full swing followed by sunbathing on the poolside loungers. Time in the pool split by lunch in the sun. B

ack home Olivia is happy to nap, but Charlotte is keen not to miss out on any time with the big kids. There’s bubble blowing out in the close as well as meeting Arlo the dog next door and his owner Jen.

Kate takes Sienna and Seb to the local elementary school which leaves its gates open at the weekend for locals to use their play equipment including footballs, basketballs, hula hoops and skipping ropes. It’s hot in the sun and Seb returns sweaty as usual ahead of takeaway pizza for dinner for everyone in the outdoor / indoor conservatory.

After a quiet Sunday morning where the kids hang out and play and the adults hang out and chat, Team RJ walks off into Annapolis, stopping briefly at two play parks on the way.

Annapolis is all about the water, from multiple marinas and their yacht clubs, to the unofficially named Ego Alley to flaunt your boat, to the naval academy also in the town. Throw in some cobbled streets and sunshine and it’s a very picturesque setting.

After ambling around some street markets, we stop for lunch at Chick & Ruth’s Deli in cosy / cramped booths and an old school vibe. Carrying three muffins each larger than the size of a baby’s head we head back to Dave & Lauren’s where the kids rest with iPad and Kate rests with eyes closed.

After more of not much - in a very good homely way - Lauren concocts a delicious prawn and fennel dish for dinner and suddenly half the adults have work tomorrow and the other half….do not.
