08.06 - Day 145 - Annapolis

Saturday 8th June - Annapolis, Maryland (Day 145)

The sun continues to follow us - after a family friendly slow morning, Team RJ walks out, 20 minutes within Eastport to the Maritime Museum. There’s only one small room with exhibits plus one function room with projector, but it punches above its weight; we end up spending an hour and a half there - there’s informative history of Chesapeake Bay and its Oyster industry but most impressively two Virtual Reality headsets sending you aboard an Oyster Boat, Racing Boat or in a more leisurely canoe ride whilst physically sat in a small rowing boat. It’s always weird to look down and not see your legs or feet.

The kids also particularly enjoy a table top video game on oyster fishing with some good Game Theory and stock preservation. The chatty docent Bob is even giving us tips on buying woollen jumpers whilst in Iceland. We sit outside on the deck to eat some lunch, only slightly unnerved by the two snakes slithering / swimming past us in the water.

By now Olivia is awake from her nap and we catch up with Dave, Lauren, Charlotte and Olivia at the swimming pool a few minutes walk away. We spend almost four hours in and out the pool with games of Pickleball going on behind us.

Sienna spends the entire time on a lounger reading a new library book - another from the Warrior series she has been devouring online + physically since stumbling upon the first book of the first season back in Saratoga Springs outside Denver.

Back home and a rare treat: a night out without the kids - Dave and Lauren have arranged a babysitter for the four kids (Ms Hayley), allowing us to walk to Forward Brewing for a drink before a very tasty dinner at Carrol’s Creek cafe overlooking the marina as the sun sets.
