01.09 - Day 230 - Epernay, FRA
Sunday 1st September - Epernay (Day 230)
After an unsurprising lay in to 9am I’m still first up and retrieving breakfast for the troops emerging at 10am. A gentle few hours and then it’s back to last night’s scene for brunch.
Perhaps half the crowd are already making their way back home whilst the rest of us tuck into the leftover croque-monsieurs, cheeses and desserts. And of course another glass or two of champagne.
To stretch out legs we 4 drive to Les Faux de Verzy, with an occasional sweet as a bribe for tired children walking through a forest, of note weeping bushed trees creating imaginative dens.
Our return drive takes us past the House of Mumm - one of the realisations is how well Mumm, Verve, Moet and a handful of others have done securing up the shelf spaces around the world when there are dozens or hundreds more in the region.
There’s an unofficial last supper with the married couple as we pick up a few oversized pizzas, as we try, and fail, to finish off the keg of beer at the venue.
We say farewell to Clem’s parents and to Carolyn and Kristian, but just an au revoir to Clem, Claudia, Noah and Mila who we’ll see again in their current hometown of Salzburg in a few days time.
Great to be a part of the wedding, all the more so that Sienna and Seb got playtime with Noah and Mila out of adults’ hair.
