06.09 - Day 235 - Salzburg, AUT

Friday 6th September - Salzburg (Day 235)

Thankfully, after Sienna and Seb have done their schoolwork, Noah and Mila are keen to show off their city and so we persuade the kids to temporarily let go of the toys or trampoline or swingball and the 7 of us head into Salzburg proper (Clem is at work).

Padlock bridge is sure weighed down by padlocks, even some enterprising shop owners have more in their windows, but through the busy, narrow streets we wind before chomping on 3 giant pretzels that everyone is excited about.

In the main square of the old town, there is a mountain bike time trial’ youngsters whipping around cobbled corners and jumps or obstacles crafted from pallets.

The small inflatable football has the four kids bouncing from side to side before we load up on more carbs from a bakery powered by an old water mill, fed from the castle that looms over the city.

The old town is a populous spot on the tourist trail with throngs of crowds pursuing the shop windows or consuming refreshments in the sun soaked cafes.

The warmth is enough to get the kids in the small pool / big paddling pool at home before we’re joined for post work dinner and drinks by Cate and Stefan and their two kids Sofia and Bella. A meat feast is cooked up on charcoal (!) BBQ, with the kids packed upstairs for a movie, while the adults sit outside on the balcony enjoying the views, warmth and company.
