12.09 - Day 241 - Vrbnje, SLO to Pridraga, CRO

Thursday 12th September - Vrbnje, Slovenia - Pridraga, Croatia (Day 241)

Eggs for breakfast from our hosts at Stara Soncara Hisa and after school we pack up to leave. As per the forecast it’s now training so we end up driving past Ljubljana instead of spending a wet day there and drive south towards Croatia.

Once we’ve passed the rain we stop at a bakery and Lidl in Crnomelj for lunch - the size of the rolls and pastries, and their price, makes me wonder if we should stay longer in Slovenia.

But on we go to a small village called Pridraga - the landscape shifting from tall dark forests to patchy smaller olive trees and exposed white rocks and rough stone walls, certainly feeling more Mediterranean.

At our Apartment Verde we’re shown sound by the amiable grandmother who talks non-stop Croatian at us despite us clearly not understanding a word. Thankfully her pregnant daughter is there to translate which then includes sharing a few glasses of a homemade walnut spirit with the grandmother.

Seb heads out to try and play with the grandson Karlo who is also 7, Karlo sharing his bike with Seb showing him how to cycle a loop between the houses.

It’s definitely warmer here albeit not bright sunshine but that doesn’t stop us driving 10 minutes to this inlet of the sea where we spy a blue floating platform 50 metres out which is more than enough persuasion to get the kids, and then adults, into the water.

There’s one other couple in the sea and the kids enjoy jumping off the platform again and again. Following a quick seaside drink at a bar, it’s back to the Apartment Verde for dinner.
