14.09 - Day 243 - Pridraga to Trogir, CRO
Saturday 14th September - Pridraga to Trogir (via Zadar), Croatia (Day 243)
As we’re packing up to leave the Grandma gives us another large bowl of grapes - we’re still getting through the first two bunches she cut down from their front drive and gave to us - it takes so much longer to eat when they have pips - whilst we're very grateful, this is 2024 not 1624. But they are tasty, home grown and free.
Rather than heading direct to our next location of Trogir we detour 40 minutes to Zadar, parking outside the old city walls and joining throngs of people strolling along the smoother paving stones.
On the seafront side are sea organs - holes in the rocks which when the waves splash against them, emit an unstructured ‘tune’ of organ notes, sounding like a pod of whales talking to one another.
Seb’s disgruntlement at walking for the sake of walking (admiring old stone buildings and narrow alleyways doesn’t count) is more than offset when he’s able to buy a (fake) Luka Modric Croatian football shirt, shorts and mini football. The kids’ day gets even better with a scoop of ice cream.
Following the line of the coast we cruise down the motorway an hour and a half to another old town of Trogir. This old town is on a very small island only metres from the coast.
We’re then staying at Apartment Tomena which is on a larger island 100 metres off the mainland. The sight of the beach so close excites Seb and almost tempts the rest of us for a swim, but the wind picks up a little dissuading us all, except Seb who gets in anyway.
Dinner in the lavender purple apartment (we’ve seen a lot of lavender nic nacs in the tourist areas, but yet to see any actual lavender growing anywhere).
