17.09 - Day 246 - Trogir to Prizba, CRO
Tuesday 17th September - Trogir - Prizba (Korcula Island), Croatia (Day 246)
Deciding where to go has actually been harder in Europe than it was in say Vietnam and America where we had to go from South to North in the former or West to East in the latter. Here we can go any direction to any country for any amount of time.
In an effort to stay warm we plan to head South to Dubrovnik before doubling back to catch a car ferry over to Italy. And rather than heading directly we decide to go via an island or two.
In order to catch a 10:30 am ferry from Split it’s up and out by 8 am leaving behind our lavender-coloured Apartment Tomena, queuing to join the ferry. A 3 hour ride on a blustery yet smooth ride down to Vela Luka on the island of Korcula - one of only a handful of islands you can take your car and also arrive at one end of the island and exit at the other end so we’re not simply doubling back on ourselves.
Upon docking it is a very windy 30 minute drive to the village of Prizba and our new home Apartment Lomea. Three storey house, each level rented out separately, ours at the top which begins at road height as the house drops down to the waterfront.
It’s warm, but not hot, but certainly better than the forecast so we walk a couple of minutes to a beach behind a headland.
Seb seems out of sorts - we assume from the ferry and car ride - which is to say he doesn’t want to go swimming, whilst Sienna is extra perky now she has a mask and snorkel I’d found at Kaufland the night before. In the end she’s so confident she agrees to swim back to the house.
There’s hundreds of little fish - it’s great to see her so animated and she’s keen to stay in the water longer. We climb out in front of our house before enjoying dinner on the balcony overlooking the dipping sun reflecting on the sea’s surface.
Because of the two small islands about 1 km offshore, Sienna says it’s like being at Mema and Pawpaw’s house in Wales, which if you tilt your head, squint and use your imagination might be true.
