19.09 - Day 248 - Prizba to Lumbarda, CRO
Thursday 19th September - Prizba - Lumbarda (Korcula Island), Croatia (Day 248)
Boy did it rain last night - the wooden shutters on the windows were rattling with the wind and the rolls of thunder reverberating around.
No swimming this morning as the rain continues to fall. We’re house bound then for school work and packing - today we’re driving to the east of the island. It’s a slow drive in the heavy rain and hairpin turns.
We stop on the edge of Korcula Old Town for shopping, and somehow the rain just comes to a sudden halt. Which then allows us to sit outdoors and eat some lunch before walking up the rampart and into the Old Town.
Similar to Trogir, its streets are only the width of a path enclosed by a castle wall and turrets ready to fire a cannon off. It’s only a brief walk around this popular spot, already coming back to life now the rain has stopped.
Just 5 minutes up the road is a ferry that’s only a 15 minute ferry ride to the mainland to Orebic. A further 15 minutes down the road and we arrive at Lumbarda where our accommodation - Didini Divori is set amongst vineyards and next to two wineries.
We’re even presented with a bottle of grk (white) wine from the homeowners vines which are scattered in the region as grandparents bought vines as and when they came on the market many years ago.
It’s only 5 minutes to the nearest beach which we soon attend in the breaking sun - Sienna immediately out at sea with the snorkel and mask. It’s a rare sandy beach so Seb plays in the sand whilst I bob around with Sienna.
Back to one of out nicest apartments yet for dinner on the balcony overlooking vines, the small church spire in the middle distance with water either side and then the mountains of the mainland in the distance.
The thunder and lightning show recommences.
