26.09 - Day 255 - Povlja, CRO
Thursday 26th September - Provlja (Brac Island), Croatia (Day 255)
Blue skies upon opening the green shutters of Apartment Andrej. In a rarity for these types of apartment stays we have breakfast included - that’s because the grandparents own one of the two cafes down on the waterfront - Konoba Stara Uljara.
All the locals are drinking their espressos and water, many smoking which is noticeably present in Croatia. We’re fed cheese, salami, bread, along with scrambled eggs in a wrap, tomatoes and hot drinks.
A hearty start and now to the penultimate day of Term 3 for Sienna and Seb. After some heel dragging to finish off work, we flip flop a few minutes to Ticja Luka beach.
The usual stoney beach, extravagantly clear water and just behind the exposed remnants of a stone quarry from which some of the local homes were probably made. The kids' rekindled interest in their Lego has resulted in it being brought to the beach where they now build a house for their characters.
Skip back to the apartment for lunch before heading back out for more swims, this time at Plaza Nova. As ever, there’s plenty of smaller fish to entertain the snorkelers. All in all, exactly what a late summer holiday should be, along with card games and a beer in the sun.
An elderly local joins us with his oodle dog, his small speaker exuding what I assume to be Croatian classics. Kate Sienna and Seb head back whilst I stay to write some of this in the softening sun. We move onto opera and seven I recognise Madame Butterfly, humming it for the next 24 hours. My Ozujsko beer now never tasted so good.
