14.11 - Day 304 - Stoupa (Mani), GRE
Thursday 14th November - Stoupa, Greece (Day 304)
A day of On Off rain, but mostly On the moment we try and do anything. But that matters not a jot first thing because we have breakfast delivered.
In summer, this place is 450 euros a night and so there’s a service to match. But despite paying under a quarter that, we are still able to order our breakfast the night before and it’s delivered on two large trays by Martina and her husband. A feast for anyone, but compared to our Own Brand cornflakes or porridge it seems glutinous - bacon and eggs on toast x4, avocado on toast x4, fresh fruit, fresh bread + spreads, greek yoghurt x4, cake and orange juice.
Set up for the day, it’s school work then colouring in and journal writing on the balcony of the upstairs apartment (it’s undercover from the rain).
We try an excursion to the beach, but the sea is choppy and the rain arrives minutes after we do, so we retreat back to Amani Earthy Living for card games.
A second trip down the hill is also aborted, stopping only at the supermarket in the end.
Suddenly at 5 o’clock, there’s a break in the clouds and with the sun dropping elegantly for the day, Seb - who is bouncing off the walls having not expended enough energy - is sent into the pool. He’s game to jump in, but does swim very fast to get out.
Under the promise of a hot shower, I also take the plunge, briefly, twice. At least the photos look great, even if they don’t convey the impending iciness of the water.
Homemade burgers for dinner and a few more games of cards, plus the game ‘Three’ that we were given in the Ancient Technology museum in Athens that Seb has taken a shine to.
