01.12 - Day 321 - Bat Cave to Phnom Penh, KHM

Sunday 1st December - Bat Cave to Phnom Penh (Day 321)

A full night's sleep uninterrupted - which is lucky because if you need the toilet in the night, you’d need to escape the mosquito net covering the bed, climb down a dozen steep wooden stairs to get to the shared toilet.

Upon waking there is a power cut, which also means no running water for showers. Despite all of these foibles, Family BatCave will still fall on our recommended list - friendliest of hosts, location and views, food, guests and animals combine for a great stay.

So after breakfast of fruit and eggs, the host’s family and other guests wish us farewell as we squeeze into a tuk tuk for the ride into Battambang.

There’s no bus station, each company has their own shop / location their buses depart from. Our Capitol minibus flies along the road down to Phnom Penh - only two emergency stops as someone pulls out in front of us - sometimes not being able to see what unfolds on the journey is more relaxing.

It feels strange to see high rise buildings and the sudden build up of traffic indicates we’re arriving. An easy 10 minute walk to our Residence 105; the opposite of Family BatCave, a two bedroom apartment with rooftop swimming pool.

A late lunch at KenKong restaurant, Sienna and Seb were very happy with their pork, rice and egg.

Relaxing time on the rooftop with a dip in the pool followed by a takeaway noodle soup in the apartment and hot showers.
