05.12 - Day 325 - Phnom Penh to Kampot, KHM

Thursday 5th December - Phnom Penh to Kampot (Day 325)

Is was on the bus ride into Phnom Penh that I’d spotted some large photos outside the French Embassy that led me down the rabbit hole that took us to the Factory on Tuesday, so for today’s early cycle (not that early because the staff are strict on the 7am start time for some reason), I cycle the 4 km north back there.

It’s fair to say I’m the only one admiring the prints and walking the perimeter of the Embassy (hopefully in a non-suspicious manner). It’s a nice selection of animals and flowers with ideas on what they may look like in the future.

Back through the rush hour traffic I toddle past the train station proudly proclaiming ‘We have trains running everyday’.

There’s time for a dash of schoolwork between breakfast and packing before an early lunch - and a rare third visit to - Kenkong restaurant nearby.

Then it’s 3 hrs on a minibus by Kim Seng, including massive liberal use of the horn and opportunistic overtaking (sometimes sitting further back is better to not see the apparent gap we’re overtaking in), arriving into Kampot mid-afternoon.

The Magic Sponge, only a few minutes walk away, is run by William - who identifies as Alaskan, not American.

Seb is thrilled by the crazy golf available and so after a round of that we find dinner at a night market in the compact town centre with fairy light lined streets and lit up bridge over the river which Kampot spans. That’ll do us.
