10.12 - Day 330 - Kampot to Kep, KHM
Tuesday 10th December - Kampot to Kep (Day 330)
Another great breakfast by the pool at Kampot Sweet Boutique; Seb’s interrupted with his weekly one-on-one call with Miss Sophie in Sydney. He then doubles up with a class lesson too (all three of them), all the while Sienna is plugging along designing a theme park.
We have more time in the large pool before packing up to leave. There’s a bit of dead time between having to check out at midday and not being allowed to check in in Kep, only 30 minutes away, at 2pm - so it’s a bit more schoolwork by the pool.
Our tour driver Mr Nak comes to drive us south-east, coincidentally his wife works here at Sweet Boutique. The gentle vibrations in the open sided remorque send Sienna, Seb and myself off to sleep until we descend down to the sea front in Kep; a town thinly spread along the coast.
Our white Saravoan hotel is nestled in the corner of the bay and we walk along the dark sand beach for a dig, play and swim.
I’m ambushed by a gang of young local kids, who after copying our castle and moat impress me with their knowledge of Premier League players - global game indeed, in fact, it’s here in Cambodia that I’ve seen the most amount of (fake) football shirts worn by children; either of Cambodia national team or big name clubs.
Sienna is more impressed by the cats and kittens at a cafe where we got some standard fried rice and noodles - the kittens helpless in her grasp.
Back at the hotel there’s still time for a swim in the pool overlooking the bay, even if the smartness of the hotel has tainted edges from the sea air. Card games are back in vogue before heading off to bed.
