19.12 - Day 339 - Bangkok, THA
Thursday 19th December - Bangkok (Day 339)
I’ve got the stomach bug Kate had got yesterday afternoon so while I stay in close proximity to the bathroom and lose a couple of kgs, Kate takes Sienna and Seb out for the day to the, in their eyes, fabled Children’s Discovery Museum.
Kate’s insert - Upon waking it’s time to hunt for breakfast, Matt is now feeling unwell (however I am better) so it’s the kids and I for the day. We cross over the main road outside the Lancaster Hotel and walk past 10 or so small carts selling various food options. We’re lucky as there is a university just beyond the main road, so there’s lots of foot traffic warranting the street food stalls. We settle for a bag of doughnut balls, pork skewers, watermelon chunks and a rice bowl with omelette on top. We also pop into the 7/11 for a couple of yoghurt pots. We eat back in the room, the kids very happy with our selection.
From our previous visit to Bangkok in January we went to the Children’s Discovery Museum twice - museum might be stretching it, but it certainly has a lot of activities for the kids to do and aircon. So the kids insisted we go back for one last visit.
Seb is so excited he might burst, what actually happens is he exhausts himself from excitement, then appears bored and tired actually at the place he was so excited to go to.
Luckily it’s an easy train ride from the hotel and then a 10 minute walk to the centre. I even recognise where we are when I get off the train - you could call me a local. The kids excitedly run in and obviously want to go in different directions.
It’s busier than our previous visits, but still easy enough to get around and do the activities. We colour in a vegetable that then get’s projected onto a screen and hops about, watched the 4D movie on recycling, made a village with the wooden blocks, made a kite with paper and chop sticks, made a snowman and grinch, played in the sand pit digging up dinosaurs and played with the duplo.
All activities we’d done previously, just rinse and repeat. Four hours easily flying past. We then went across the road to the 7/11 we’d visited before to get some toasted sandwiches and pot noodle for a late lunch, before heading back to the train.
Arriving back at the hotel around 5pm, we find Matt who’s mostly recovered sitting in the lobby to greet us. Sienna and Seb run laps of the large atrium like a scene from Mary Poppins; Jane and Michael - their kites fluttering four feet behind them. Following an excitable rundown of their day, there is a brief outing for a snacking dinner before everyone collapses into bed.
